Swimming & relaxing at Lac de Vassivière - catch the train to the island & see the Contemporary Art Centre, swim, go on boats, wind surf or just relax.
There are three locations for boat trips around Lac de Vassivière, one boat has an on board restaurant. You can also hire a boat from Auphelle on Lac de Vassivière. |

You hire a canoe or Kayak from the beach at Broussas. |
Swimming & relaxing - again! at Bujaleuf situated between St. Leonard de Noblat and Eymoutiers.
It's lake St. Helene has a sandy beach & pontoon which the children seem to spend all day playing on and diving off. There is a bar and restaurant by the lakeside in Bujaleuf with a beautiful terrace for watching the sunset. You can also go fishing. |

Sailing - the most local lake being Lac de Vassivière. Nautique Club Limousin, the French school of sailing, situated on the beach at Vauveix (a village round the lake), caters for beginners to experienced for all types of sailing www.nautic-club-limousin.fr.st (in French) |

Club Nautique de Vassivière, at Auphelle, another village on the shores is great for sports sailing, organising local, regional and national regattas. Open from 1st April to 31st October. |
Aubusson - the place of the famous tapestries. Have a Breton crepe at La Maison Creperie, near the Tourist information Office.

| Just relaxing & enjoying the local countryside. There are many walks straight from the cottage. |

Visit Oradour Sur Glane - a village like no other, which has been kept as a memorial to remember the inhabitants and what happened there on 10th June 1944, a very moving experience.

Limoges City - Capital of the Limousin.
It's known worldwide for its medieval enamels on copper, for its 19th century porcelain and for its oak barrels, which are used for Cognac production.

For the children - Parc Animalier des Monts de Gueret, observe real-life wolves living outside in the park.

Aquarium - Close to the Town Hall in Limoges the aquarium has 300 different species and more than 2500 fish in an area of over 1000 square meters. click here for French web site.

Cheissoux
A small place near near Bujaleuf and St. Moreil, off the D13 between St. Leonard-de-Noblat and Payrat-le-Chateau. Beautiful 13th Century church, next to which is Auberge De La Fontaine, French owners Brigitte and Eric, speak English, reasonably priced snacks & meals, lunch time snacks includes salads and vegetarian meals.

Horse riding - riding schools are affiliated to the Federation Francaise d' Equitation.

With 350kms of bridle ways, the equestrian centre of Vassivière is at Masgrangeas, open all year just 10km from Vallon Vert.
Domaine de la Bussière at St-Pierre-Bellevue is open all year.

| Tree Walking! - Parc d'Arbre en Arbre, near Vassivière is an aerial rope course challenge set in the tall pine trees where you can move from tree to tree - safely! It's made up of 7 circuits with 90 games. Open everyday from the end of June to the end of August 9.30am to 7.30pm. Museum of the Resistance - Peyrat-le-Château, where the very first fighting brigade was formed during the 2nd World War, under the leadership of Colonel George Guingouin. Open from May to September, the rest of the year on appointment. The village of Peyrat-le-Château is also a good place to drop by. |
Sculpted village - Masgot is a tiny village, population of about 30, it's unusual because during the 19th century Francois Michaud, a farmer with a passion for stone created sculptures which are dotted throughout the village.
He wanted to leave something behind that people could remember him by and to this day Masgot is famous for its stone. |

The Moulin du Got - last remaining vestige of the considerable papermaking activity in the Limousin in the 18th century, was built during the 15th century to make paper and continued to do so until it was closed down in the middle of the 20th century.

Markets -
There are many different size's of market in and around Limousin, the times and days vary from one town or village to the next, but there will always be a market open somewhere throughout the region. They can be fantastically tasty fresh produce, antiques or Brocantes as they are called, you may also catch a wine & cheese fete. Locally they will be at St. Leonard, Bourganeuf etc. |

Bourganeuf - The town of light.
In May 1886, 60 light bulbs were illuminated in Bourganeuf. It was the third town in France to offer light in public places and households. A beautiful town with shops and cafe round the town square. |
House Hunters
This region has become very popular recently for house hunters understandably as the region is still sparsely populated and beautiful, plus the local people are so friendly. The advice given to anyone looking to buy a house abroad is to spend some time living there to get to know the area. If you are looking for a property in this area you are welcome to come and stay at La Bo Bo for an extended time, just contact us and we'll discuss the fees.
